Have to disagree with you on Palin being more experienced than Obama. Actually – to clarify – I’m not totally convinced that any kind of activity really prepares someone to be president. But I would suggest that in order to be qualified a candidate should demonstrate an excellent command of the important issues. In other words, she should have known what the Bush Doctrine was. Period. That kind of FP ignorance to me is completely inexcusable for someone who wants to be VP. (I’m also not impressed with the ‘never had a passport before two years ago’ and ‘I know FP because I can see Russia from my backyard’ arguments, but the Bush Doctrine thing was the deal-breaker).
I think what I really wanted to get at in this piece was that she was a great political choice and that it’s not clear the extent to which experience can or should figure into the choice.
I’ve written in this journal before that I’m uneasy with Palin because I’m not sure her candidacy passes even passes the smell test.
I completely agree, though, that her utter lack of FP competence is not acceptable.
In my personal view, I am not sure this is a.responsible way to ensure succession is responsibly looked after.
Her incompetence on that file aside though, I’d still love to hear what she and Henry Kissinger will be talking about today. Maybe he can write her up a cheat sheet for the VP debate…
Matt,

Otherwise, hope things are well!
Warren,
Thanks for the comment.
